Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Annapurna Base Camp Trek "18 Nights 19 Days Nepal" (Kathmandu, Pokhara, Annapurna BC Trekking & Chitwan)

Itinerary

Few places in the world have such a splendid variety of natural beauty as the Annapurna region. It is a rare combination of long arrays of snow-capped peaks, crystal clear lakes, turbulent rivers with deep gorges, Tibetan monasteries, hot-springs, and picturesque villages inhabited by simple and friendly ethnic people.

Day 01 Arrive Kathmandu Arrive Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel
Day 02   Kathmandu Sightseeing 1/2 Day sightseeing to Monkeys Temple and trekking permit arrangements. O/N in Kathmandu.
Day 03 Kathmandu - Pokhara Drive to Pokhara. O/N at Pokhara.
Day 04 Pokhara - Lumle - Tikhe Dhunga (1491m.) Drive to large village of Lumle and the hamlet of Chandrakot. From here the trail descends steeply to Birethanti and he banks of the Modi Khola.
We follow the east bank of the Bhudigandaki with some detours to avoid cliffs.

Along the way, various hamlets offer ample camping possibilities but if Ghorepani is the objective for the next day it is better to push on to Tikhe Dhunga.
Day 05 Tikhe Dhunga - Ghorepani ( 2774) The trail ascends a steep stone staircase to Ulleri village then more pleasantly through rhododendron forest. There is a hut with water and a small camp site about 1 hr. above Ulleri, and further on the stream is followed, providing water for a meal stop.

Arrive at the top of the Ghorepani pass and camp there.
Day 06 Ghorepani - Tadapani This day is up and down walking through the magnificent stand of giant rhododendrons....
Day 07 Tadapani - Chhomrung Dropping down from Tadapani Ghandgung offers good views of the upper Modi valley. The route starts the long ascent high above the west bank of the Modi Khola. The village of Chhomrong lies tucked at the very base of Himal Chuli
Day 08 Chhomrung - Himalaya Hotel Proceed to Kuldi Ghar 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. There is a clearing in the forest a little further on. From there the route goes very steeply down a bank of rock and then levels out, running through thickets of bamboo at the bottom of the gorge, keeping always on the west side of the river.

The pasture of Tomo is passed by, and then the very neck of the gorge at pantheon Barah, where there is a small trail and a shrine. Then the track climbs to Himalaya hotel at the camp site.
Day 09 Annapurna South Base Camp Visita On up the broad grassy path referred to above for about 1 and 1/2 hr. and then climb on to the lateral moraine and down the other side on to the glacier. Walking up the bed of the glacier is safe and quite easy and the British Expedition Base Camp is reached after another 1 and 1/2 hr. Base camp is at 4,237 m.

The trip is best done from the lower camp, carrying only lunch, and the best views are probably obtained from the crest of the moraine, which may have been cut by the glacier flowing down from Himal Chuli to the north.
Day 10 Annapurna South Glacier Basin ( 3,858m) The track remains on the west bank of the Modi, now flowing through a more open valley, and eventually emerges into the Sanctuary. Straight ahead is the high lateral moraine of the south Annapurna glacier and the Modi follows a deep cliff to the right.

This is the site of Machhapuchhre base camp and one can either camp here or continue north west, staying above the glacial moraine.
Day 11 Annapurna Base Camp - Dovan Descend and follow the same route to a pleasant camp spot at Dovan
Day 12 Dovan - Modi Khola Once we have passed Khuldi Bikas where there is an experimental sheep Farm, the trail continues through rhododendron and bamboo fields.

After Chhomorung the trail continues steeply up stony steps to Kabre Chautara and soon after the trail to Landrung leaves the Ghandrung path dropping away towards the river.
Day 13 Modi Khola - Dhampus Walk towards the easy way down to the Gurung village, Landrung. Then all the way down to Dhampus.
Day 14 Dhampus - Pokhara All the way down to Pokhara via Phedi, then drive to Pokhara. Camping at lake side in Pokhara.
